Community Guidelines
Layer8 is a pressure-release valve for technical people—not a place to expose, target, or humiliate anyone.
The cardinal rule: Never post a real person’s name or enough details to identify them. When in doubt, leave it out.
Protect privacy
- Use “the user,” “a coworker,” or a fictional role instead of real names.
- Remove company names, locations, teams, email addresses, phone numbers, usernames, IP addresses, ticket numbers, screenshots, and unique job details.
- Do not ask others to identify someone from a story.
Critique situations, not people
Good-natured venting is welcome. Slurs, threats, harassment, dogpiling, cruelty, and attacks on someone’s intelligence or identity are not.
Keep confidential information confidential
Never share passwords, access tokens, customer data, internal documents, security vulnerabilities, medical or financial information, or anything covered by an employment agreement.
Be useful
Offer advice in good faith, celebrate small wins, disclose conflicts, and avoid spam or repetitive promotion. Report content that puts a person or organization at risk.
Enforcement
Moderators may hide content, resolve reports, limit activity, suspend accounts, or preserve relevant records when needed to protect the community.
